During this time much has happened to our crowd, and we have been split up all over the world. Some have dropped from view, but I am in hopes that through this letter we will again find out where they are. Some or the facts in this letter may not entirely be true but I em in hopes that you will find the majority of it correct. If you have any further information on any of the class please let me know and through this I will be able to make up another letter similar to this. If you have the address of any of the fellows that I have no address behind their name I would appreciate you ·sending them to me so that I may send them a copy of this letter• Due to my poor memory I mny have left out quite a few of the class that should be mentioned. Due to lack of contact with some I have given very little n8ws of them, but I am in hopes that these shortcomings will be overlooked, for I have not purposely left any ones name out nor withheld any information. Charles (Chuck) Collier - Chuck left A.c.s. at the end of the second year to go in the aney- and become a pilot. He was well on his way to getting hi~ wings when he was killed in a plane orash in Kansas. I ~ve received very little information as to how it happened and, I am sorry that I cannot give his home address. We all know what a swell fellow and photographer he .vas. · · Glen Miller - G loft school at the same tiJOO Chuck did, and for the same purpose.· Later he took advo.nced training at Dos He was first sent to Santa Ann, Calif• Pnlos, Calif• He was one of the few in his class to be selected to became a bomber pilot. During his first flight at Mather•Field, Calif. he was killed when the B 25 he was in crashed. His body was cremated, and his urn is in the Riverside';Colum.:. Adams • we cannot possibly forget these two very important people for they are the backbone of Art Center.· From all the news that I can gather they are still in there pitching for the school, and doing a swell job; for it has due to the war. We are sure though that they will been hard pressed on enrollment ·see the school through this omergency. Mardee Aciama • You will probably remember Mardee by her smile from the desk in the reception room. Mardee left A.c.s,. to join the Waves, and was first sent to New York. Later she was sent to Stillwater, Oklahoma to Yoemans school. After finishing school she was sent to San F_rancisco, Calif• wher_e she is working in the fleet post office. -· Fred Archer - Fred left A.c.s. after being there for. a long time, and helping many a photographer get started. -I do not know why he left. He is now working for either Columbia or Universal studio. The last news I had of him was that he was in good health and seemed quite happy. We all hope that this j,s true and that it will continue. (No address.) · Ted Barnaby - Ted came into our class at the beginning of the second yenr. He had a lot or 4rive, and turned out a lot of good work. After leaving the scho.ol I have had no news or him. (No address.) · Herb Barrett - Herb left A.c.s. in the middle of the second year to join the in L.A. for quite a while, and was later transferred to Nnvy. He was stationed Washington, n.c. He is now working with the Steichen group. but says that he is not doing very much shooting. Herb was mnrried to Roberta Thompson (a first year student.during our second year) in July. George Barrows - George was one of the last to leave A.c.s. and he left the Navy. After being in the Navy for a while he was given a medical dischargto join e. Later he was rejected by the anny. He then did a book on a oonstruction job for the government, which turned out to be a big success. He is now in P,artnership with Norman Halve (a first year student during our second year) and they are doing fine with it, and we are in hopes that things will continue to prosper for them. Douglas (Doug) Besaw - I imagine that quite a few of us have forgotten Doug, he was quiet, and had to·work to stay in school as long as he did. He was a swell fellow from Wisconsin, and I am sorry to say that I have had no news of hilll since he left. (No address.) · , Tom Binford - After Tom,held his one man show at A.c.s. he left and returned to Kansas City. There he has been doing a lot of fashion and illustrative work. At present he is trying to get a commission in the Navy. His wife Helen and son Mark are getting along fine. While going across the country I had the pleasure of see• ing Tom and Helen and they looked fine. Say, Tom, are you still taking Mark 1·s milk money and buying beer with it? Ensign Tom J. Binford, 900 Illinois Road, Lake Forest, Ill. · Ken Brown - Ken went back to A.c.s. for a third year, and from what I he~r he ho.s been doing alright for himself; Ken tried to join the Army and the Navy, but was turned down by both. His girl; Doris Brookman ( known to us as Shorty) wrote thnt Ken was now doing some advertising work for Consolidated Aircraft. Ed Burks - Ed nade up one of the best looking sets of prints that I have ever seen before he left school. He went to New York and for some time worked with a studio that Luis Lemus was working for·. Ed and Luis shared an apartment until Ed left to join. the Navy'~ He spent his boot training at Sampson, New York and was sent to Washington, n·.c·.to join the Steichen group. From his letters I gather that he has been doing a lot of shooting. Sandy Burpee - Sandy left school at the end of the first year·. She is now an instructor and general manager of a womens athelitic club in some hotel in New York. (No address".) Doris Ragan• She was in summer school before the start of our first year. The last information on her was when she left school at the end of the first year. (No address,) Stu Bush -· Stu left school near the end of the second year to take a job in the ship yards. Later it wes reported that he had gone to Louisana. to work in the ship yards. He then joined the Navy and was sent to Sampson, New York for his boot training. He is now in San Diego doing the same type wor le. Roland (Tex) Chataham - Tex was a second year student during our first year and returned for the third year. He left at the end of the·third year to go into the army. He is in the Signal Corps and was sent to Africa, and after covering the entire campaign he has been given a rest. (No address.) He was awarded a scholarship for his second year, but was called into the arnv, He is in the Air Corps and has gone through Lowry Field's Photo school.
