This exhibit showcases ArtCenter Photography Department instruction and student work from the beginning of the program in 1931 to 1975 at its first two campuses in Los Angeles before the move to the current location in Pasadena.
Jules Bates: A Photographer Ahead of His Time
Jules Bates was a prolific photographer in the late 1970s-early 1980s, capturing the Los Angeles punk scene and photographing portraits of celebrities. Part of the art collective Artrouble, his work also includes album covers for bands like Oingo Boingo and DEVO, as well as New Wave fashion. This exhibit features selections from his photography collection, including ArtCenter student work and professional work.
