ArtCenter College of Design's first South Campus building - at 950 S. Raymond - is also known as the Wind Tunnel. It's not just a nickname for the cavernous space in the middle - it once was an operating wind tunnel. The building was built by four major aircraft companies in 1945 to test airplanes, as the industry shifted from wartime to commercial flight. This exhibit explores the history of the Southern California Cooperative Wind Tunnel, from it's construction to it's expansion to supersonic.
ArtCenter College of Design's Transportation Design Department has been at the forefront of educating automobile designers since 1948. This exhibit highlights the history of the department - the people, the projects, and the influences that have shaped the future of transportation design.
